Power System Design Engineer
Location: Glasgow
Type: Permanent
Join a growing engineering organisation specialising in the design and delivery of high-voltage substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the UK. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex grid-scale renewable and energy infrastructure projects, contributing to the UK's transition toward net zero.
As a Power System Design Engineer, you'll take ownership of electrical design and analysis activities, ensuring technically sound, grid-compliant, and build able solutions. Working closely with multi-disciplinary teams, you'll play a key role in delivering safe, reliable, and efficient EPC projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver power system design packages for HV substations, grid connections, and BESS projects (11-400 kV).
- Develop SLDs, equipment layouts, cable schedules, and earthing/bonding designs.
- Perform power system studies - including load flow, fault level, protection coordination, harmonic, and dynamic stability analysis.
- Support grid connection applications and compliance submissions with DNOs/TOs/NGESO, ensuring adherence to relevant standards.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in power system design within HV substations, grid connections, or BESS projects.
- Strong understanding of HV/LV systems, grid code compliance, and UK DNO/TO standards.
- Proficiency in power system modelling software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD, or IPSA.
A great opportunity for an experienced engineer to advance their career in power system design, working on innovative EPC and renewable energy projects within a dynamic, forward-thinking team
