Senior Mechanical Engineer - Intervention Tools (Houston, TX)

We're engaged by a market-leading intervention tools manufacturer to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design and qualification across a broad well intervention portfolio - coiled tubing (CT) BHAs, slickline/wireline running & pulling tools, mechanical/hydraulic jars, disconnects, stroking tools, fishing/overshots, milling & cleanout tools, jetting/nozzles, e-line interfaces, and remedial/thru-tubing systems. You'll take concepts from whiteboard to field trial, balancing robustness, reliability, and rapid manufacturability.

What you'll do

  • Own end-to-end mechanical design: requirements capture, concept trade studies, detailed design, prototyping, verification/validation, and release.

  • Model dynamic loads and pressure-driven actuation for CT and wireline duty cycles; perform fatigue, impact, torsion, and flow/erosion analyses (hand calcs + FEA/CFD).

  • Develop and execute qualification plans: pressure/burst/collapse, torque/tension, jar impact energy, sealability, erosion, vibration, and thermal cycling - incl. HP/HT and sour service.

  • Select materials, heat treatments, coatings, elastomers, and springs for high-cycle and corrosive environments; author BoMs, drawings, routings, and test procedures.

  • Lead DFM/DFA with machine shops and suppliers (tight-tolerance rotating assemblies, threaded connections, sealing stacks).

  • Run structured reviews (FMEA, HAZOP), root-cause field failures, and implement design for reliability.

  • Mentor junior engineers; support shop builds, FAT/SIT, and occasional rig-site trials.

What you'll bring

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering (or related).

  • 7-12+ years in mechanical design of intervention tools (coiled tubing, slickline, wireline/e-line, fishing/milling, disconnects/jars, stroking tools, cleanout BHAs, etc.).

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or Inventor, ANSYS (or similar FEA); strong GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

  • Demonstrated success qualifying tools for HP/HT and H₂S (ISO 15156/NACE MR0175); deep knowledge of high-strength alloys, Ni-based materials, and elastomer compatibility.

  • Hands-on test rig experience and a data-driven approach to fatigue life and reliability.

  • Clear communicator comfortable with cross-functional teams and field personnel.

Nice to have

  • Experience with pressure-control equipment interfaces (CT BOPs, lubricators) and e-line service connections.

  • CFD for nozzle/cleanout optimization; experience mitigating erosion and debris ingestion.

  • Knowledge of API Q1/Q2 quality systems, gated NPI, PPAP, and supplier qualification.

  • Familiarity with dissolvables, metal-to-metal seals, and non-explosive actuation.

  • Exposure to digital telemetry/tractor interfaces and toolstring shock/vibration mitigation.

Why join

  • Ship rugged tools that see immediate field impact across land and offshore interventions.

  • Empowered, fast-cycle engineering culture with ownership from concept to commercial launch.

  • Competitive base + bonus, strong benefits, and growth path to Lead/Principal or People Manager.

  • Relocation to Houston available for exceptional candidates.

Location & work setup

  • Houston, TX (onsite hybrid).

Eligibility

  • US work authorization required - No sponsorship avaliable
